The Department of Emergency Medicine at Yale-New Haven Hospital is proud to welcome its second PA Residency Class. Dana Purdy and Brittany Hannon will be joining us this June for 18 months of advanced emergency medicine training.

 

Dana Purdy, PA


Hometown:

Wading River, NY

 

Education:

Johnson & Wales University, MSPAS (2016)
Lafayette College, BS Biology (2013)

 

Hobbies/Interests:

Swimming, running, and biking. Enjoying the Long Island beaches with family and friends. Board games and jigsaw puzzles.

 

Past Life:

I was an ocean lifeguard in Westhampton, NY, a Division I college swimmer, a Biology Teaching Assistant and a student athlete peer mentor. I spent a year working as a CNA in a long-term care facility prior to attending PA school.

 

Academic Interests:

Pediatric medicine, palliative care.

 

Favorite activities in New Haven:

I cannot wait to explore New Haven on foot!

 

Why Yale EM:

Yale is one of a few places that offer an outstanding opportunity for PA’s to gain invaluable experiences in the field of emergency medicine. Yale EM is a place where I can work in a collaborative environment saturated with humanistic, compassionate and empathetic providers. It is an honor to serve people from all walks of life and to learn from well-established mentors.

 

Random factoid:

I am always up for a jigsaw puzzle challenge! I can ride a unicycle.

 

 

 

 

Brittany Hannon, PA

Hobbies/Interests:

Traveling, binge watching TV series, rope courses, zip lining, parasailing, sangria, Taylor Swift

 

Past Life:

Before entering the medical field I worked at a housing authority helping to provide public housing to low income families. I then worked as an ER tech at a community hospital before deciding to attend PA school.

 

Academic Interests:

Obstetric and gynecologic emergencies, global health, and health literacy.

 

Favorite activities in New Haven:

Food and wine!

 

Why Yale EM:

I’ve worked at many hospitals throughout southern CT in various roles, and in so many instances these hospitals have had to turn to Yale for a higher level of care. It’s an honor to receive medical education and training from a hospital program that so many other institutions turn to for help.

In addition, I have a special interest in working with minority populations and improving health literacy in these populations. The patient population in the New Haven area allows ample opportunity for this.

 

Random factoid:

I met Taylor Swift at Macy’s in NYC.
